Hunter

Hunter browsed the racks at Fellman's, eyeing the clothes lined up with a critical eye. He didn't usually go shopping for clothes in person, particularly women's clothes, but...

Irina was different. He wanted to get her something that she would appreciate, and Hunter knew that he wasn't the only one who had noticed that she wore the same five outfits over and over again as she went about her job in the house.

Not that there was anything wrong with the comfortable shirts and pants that she wore. But Hunter had caught her browsing online department stores more than once when she thought nobody was looking, so he knew new clothes were something she wanted.

Why she hadn't already used some of her salary to buy some outfits for herself was a mystery, but Hunter wasn't going to lie and say he wasn't happy to have an excuse to get her a gift. He felt bad about having had to abruptly end their moment in the library a few days before, and he didn’t want her to think that he wasn’t looking for a repeat.

In fact, he’d been considering how to corner her again…more than he was willing to admit.

"Anything I can help you with, sir?" The department store associate sidled up to him, and Hunter offered her a smile.

"I'm buying clothes for a friend. I’d like to find her something nice."

“Tell me about this friend.” The woman didn’t hide her smirk, easily seeing through Hunter.

Hunter gave a quick description of Irina, ignoring the voice in the back of his head–which sounded suspiciously like Drake's–that told him he’d been paying far too close attention to the woman if he felt confident enough to buy her clothes. Which, of course, wasn’t wrong, but similarly to how he’d respond to Drake himself, Hunter just smiled, telling the clerk that his budget was flexible as well.

The sales clerk nodded. "Any style in particular?"

Glancing around the store, Hunter noted the especially feminine items and the leisure wear, humming in thought. “She has plenty of casual clothes. I think she needs something for a…coffee date. Though, she’s not especially ‘girly’ that I’ve noticed. Pretty fond of neutrals.”

The woman nodded, eyeing the few racks of clothing where they stood. “Okay. I think I can work with that.”

Within a few minutes, the attendant had gathered a plethora of options for Hunter to sort through, and he was distinctly remembering why he didn’t do this for more women in his life. Not that he really had any. Between trying to guess if Irina would be interested in trendy or traditional, loose cuts or form-fitting, Hunter was exhausted and ready to call it quits. He pushed through, though; Irina was worth it.

Clothing should not be this hard, and why do none of the women’s pants have pockets?

“You seem a little overwhelmed.”

Hunter spun around, facing the guy behind him who was doing nothing to hide the sympathetic smile on his face. He was about average height, maybe a little taller, and had a baseball cap on over his dirty blonde hair.
